i just had to laugh at this segment, as it is my belief that the movement for equality is stronger than the movement perpetuating ignorance.

LOL! "BIG WHOOP!" Oh man...

That's insane! Well... I mean... if people are really THAT uncomfortable with being gay then there should be SUPPORT groups. Not ones that turn you into an ex-gay where you just supress all your desires and pray it away. I wonder how many of these "thousands" of followers jumped off a cliff after awhile from holding all those in. They're just learning to hate themselves! Its sad!

Blah... Do what you gotta do to be happy

hahaha... "the seeds have been planted" *shakes head*

Here's my input.
-_- *sigh~pause~deep breath*
The simplicity of the ending on this article was very abruptly pretentious, and vacuously vague. I suppose the time lapse of an overnight wonder and self-retrospect resulted in this pretentious father's adamantly tapered outlook. As I sighed in relief of it's end, my thoughts went into why someone so seemingly sophisticated as yourself would not find the will to give a mutual input to a corresponding soul of the same entities we choose to place our existences therein. In other words, "So what did you think of MY latest blog, Free?" =)

I'm all for support groups and therapy, but I don't believe that others' beliefs should be pushed on people either. I support the rights we ALL should have as human beings. We are individuals and separated by thought and our own uniqueness, but tied together in the world by nature. I don't belive that being gay or lesbian is a conscious decision you can just one day wake up and say, "Oh, I'm not gay anymore! Yay!" And the speaker talking about practicing celibacy, does that mean only straight people can enjoy sex? Sorry, no. I could continue ranting, but I will stop now. :-) I'm posting this on my LiveJournal.

Hey Free, GenX here.
I am a devout Christian and I completely disagree with this line of thinking and belief. It's like sending someone to therapy to stop them from having lustful thoughts, or lying...even occasionally. The biggest Biblical ta-do in the Bible about homosexuality is in the books of Leviticus and Romans. The book of Leviticus is known most commonly as "The Law" by both Judaism and Christianity. Most Christian church Bible studies about the Law, and sin and the fallen nature of humans teaches in conclusion that the Law was could not be followed exactly by imperfect humans. It was meant to show how far we fall from God's ideals of perfect, sinless behavior. It holds up a big mirror to humanity and says "This is really you, and you are far from perfect, no matter what you think."
Christianity teaches that no one is sinless. But at the same time, many churches are singling out homosexuality as some kind of worse sin, and then judging those who are homosexual and excluding them. Sorry, but that doesn't wash with my reading of the Bible. Should someone who didn't have sex before they were married discriminate against me because I did? If they do, fine, it's on their head, let the Lord deal with them. In my opinion, homosexuality, like lying, cheating, lust, and any other sin of the heart or commited in action is just another part of the fallen nature of human beings. Another person's sin, whether sexual or not, is non of my business. God is judge, not me. Many of God's most devout followers in the Bible committed some very serious sins. Moses killed a man in anger, David slept with the wife one of his military men, and then had that guy killed after she turned up pregnant -then took her for his wife to hide the affair. But in these cases, their devotion to God, and doing what God wanted them to do in their lives, as well as admitting their wrongs to God and asking for forgiveness, counted more in their favor than the sins, which were forgiven.(But to read the stories and learn from the lessons, those mistakes brought a great deal of trouble into these peoples lives.)
So...I think that the Christian church is going about this in the wrong way on many fronts. If you really want another point of view, or you have any gay Christian friends, have them check out www.melwite.org

I got it wrong. Here is a copy and paste from the site...

For thirty-five years, The Rev. Dr. Mel White struggled to "overcome" his homosexual orientation through prayer, fasting, various aversive therapies, exorcism, and even electric shock. A victim of misinformation and biblical misuse, Mel thought his same-sex orientation was a sickness and a sin. During those "closet years" Mel served the Christian church as a prize-winning television producer and filmmaker, a best-selling author, a pastor, seminary professor, and ghost writer to religious leaders including Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, and Jerry Falwell.

After a time of terrible depression, Mel finally reconciled his Christian faith and his sexual orientation. In his autobiography, Stranger at the Gate: To Be Gay And Christian In America, Mel announced, "I'm gay. I'm proud. And God loves me without reservation."

to be at peace on the inside with your Self and your own personal connection with your spirituality (every belief and non-belief falls under this) -- is what matters. changing who you are for something or someone else is what truly goes "against nature."

there was a time when the Bible didn't exist; it may be a mythical text that works for and inspires *some* people, but not *all.* if it works for "your" lifestyle, then fine. i find inspiration in many different texts -

the gay community is a minority; minorites struggle. most people are born gay, and i know a couple of people who made a conscious choice - those of whom never dealt with some things, such as rape/abuse. i also have one close friend who gave up her chosen gay lifestyle after realizing it was associated with her fear of men (childhood issues). but i'd have to say most of my gay friends were born gay.

and that's what makes our world so beautiful: we can't compartmentalize everyone's phisiological and/or psychological history. and our psychological and/or spiritual path is OUR OWN.

question: how does a gay lifestyle hurt "you"? because "you're" not comfortable with it? because it is not something "you" prefer? i am not comfortable with eating red meat, so i don't. i'm not comfortable with wearing any shade of Orange -- so i don't. some religions don't eat Cow or Pig - so to you carnivores out there -- do you need a Reform Camp to appease their Religion?

if you are going to live a life of judging and worrying about other people's choices, then "you" have a problem of your own.

let it be.

Have you seen "Jesus Camp"? I almost died when Ted Haggard looks into the camera and says "I know what you did last night."

All this kind of "therapy" does, apparently, is make you into a fundamentalist you f*cks prostitutes and does crack. Meanwhile, Haggard could have just been a guy who has relationships with men and meanwhile does something productive and useful with his existence. Whoops!

that is pretty crappy having your children converted, or even hinting towards it...

I personally see there is no problem with being gay...

I have a friend who says she doesn't like being lesbian, too much drama, but she would never change, and thats admirable.

I don't think "seeds are planted", I think people are born that way, or that everyone has some gay part of them in their subconscious.
